The FDA and CDC have announced that people in 25 states, including 2 people in Kentucky, have been sickened by salmonella-tainted ground turkey products since March. However, officials have not announced the brand name or the four retail stores that have produced positive readings.

At least one person has died, making the government's refusal to initiate a recall or announce the name of the product and stores puzzling. The USDA is the department responsible for announcing a recall, and last week, it issued a notice to consumers to fully cook any ground turkey to reduce the risk of salmonella.
Government regulations and inspections of food have been reduced over the last decade as budget cuts and giants corporations have worked to reduce basic safety protections for families under the theory the "market" would correct these sorts of things. However, when consumers don't know what product is tainted, what happens in the real world is that people stop buying ALL ground turkey products, which hurts competitors who have followed appropriate safety standards.
